The contract includes 34 SUPERAV 8×8 platforms and the delivery of four versions of the new amphibious combat vehicle, designed for transport, command, recovery, and medical support missions.

Spain has taken another important step in modernizing its armed forces with the signing of a strategic agreement between Indra Land Vehicles and IDV, a Leonardo company, for the development of the new Marine Infantry Amphibious Combat Vehicle, known as VACIM.

The project is part of the Special Modernization Program for the Spanish Armed Forces and aims to expand the Marine Infantry’s amphibious projection capability, strengthening its role in coastal scenarios and operations that require high mobility between sea and land.

Under the agreement, IDV will supply 34 SUPERAV 8×8 platforms, regarded as a benchmark among next-generation amphibious armored vehicles. Indra Land Vehicles, in turn, will be responsible for integrating the systems and adapting the vehicle to the needs of the Spanish Ministry of Defence, consolidating its position as one of the country’s leading combat platform integrators.

The new program provides for the delivery of four VACIM variants: troop transport, command and control, recovery, and ambulance. The goal is to ensure a versatile fleet capable of handling different types of missions in amphibious and expeditionary operations.

According to the companies, the new armored vehicle will combine high mobility, protection, reliability, and interoperability, offering the Spanish force a stronger capability both in maritime environments and on land.

Beyond its military impact, the agreement also strengthens the industrial importance of the program. For Indra, the deal expands its catalog with amphibious solutions and reinforces its value chain in the land sector. For IDV, the partnership establishes the SUPERAV as a standout platform in the international defense market and opens the door to sustained industrial cooperation in Spain.

As a result, the VACIM program is now seen as an important part of the renewal of Spain’s amphibious capability, at a time when several European countries are accelerating investments in mobility, readiness, and military interoperability.
